Место русских и советских фильмов — среди величайших произведений искусства последнего столетия. Мы, кинематографисты и синефилы со всего света — из Европы, Америки, Азии — многим им обязаны. Мы смотрим фильмы Сергея Эйзенштейна и многих других и благодаря этому открываем особые, уникальные способы существования данной формы искусства. Мы, конечно, не можем быть хранителями этого наследия, этих сокровищ. Мы доверяем великим русским историкам кино поддерживать огонь, горящий в этих фильмах, помогать нам понимать их ценность. Те из нас, кто встречал Наума Клеймана, знают, что он — один из таких ученых. Многие десятилетия он защищал и блистательно преподносил произведения Эйзенштейна, Бориса Барнета и многих других кинематографистов. Клейман и команда московского Музея Кино для целого поколения стали примером мудрости, щедрости и научной компетенции мирового масштаба, которому могу поучиться в любой синематеке или архиве. Поэтому мы глубоко озабочены известием о том, что Клейман и его сотрудники были уволены с должности хранителей очага. Мы не знаем политической подоплеки и прочих обстоятельств, но мы хотим максимально громко заявить свой протест против опрометчивых изменений в руководстве российского кино. Как и в 1968 году, когда кинематографисты от Орсона Уэллса до Карла Теодора Дрейера написали письмо французскому правительству с осуждением отставки Анри Ланглуа, мы хотим заявить: этот Музей кино не только ваш, он и наш тоже. И мы доверяем Клейману и его команде. Они доказали, что мы можем у них учиться. Уважайте их знания и цельность, осознайте, насколько правильно было бы дорожить и доверять им во имя человеческого долга растить культуру будущего из глубоких и бесконечно ценных корней прошлого — и, пожалуйста, отмените свои решения. Мы призываем всех кинематографистов мира поддержать или подписать это письмо, в знак солидарности и в поддержку синефильского братства.
